Japan's core inflation rate accelerated to a fresh decade high of 1.2 per cent in March on rising energy and food costs, official figures showed on Friday.

TOKYO: Japan's core inflation rate accelerated to a fresh decade high of 1.2 per cent in March on rising energy and food costs, official figures showed on Friday.

Core inflation, which excludes volatile fresh food prices, picked up from a pace of 1.0 per cent in February, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications said.

It was the sharpest increase in the core consumer prices since March 1998, when there was a sales tax hike.
