Japan steel association says opposes BHP, RIO merger

TOKYO: Japan's steel association said on Monday it was opposed to a proposed merger of BHP Billiton Ltd and Rio Tinto .

The Japan Iron and Steel Federation's chief said such a mega-merger would impede the market's price mechanism.

Earlier this month, BHP Billiton made an unsolicited $140 billion bid for rival Rio Tinto.
