Japan Inc less concerned about 'double-dip slump': Poll

Fewer executives of major Japanese firms are concerned about a "double-dip recession," while a majority of them forecast a full recovery late next year, according to a survey released on Sunday.

TOKYO: Fewer executives of major Japanese firms are concerned about a "double-dip recession," while a majority of them forecast a full recovery late next year, according to a survey released on Sunday.

The Nikkei business daily carried out the survey covering presidents and other top managers of 143 companies, including Panasonic, Sony, Toyota, Mizuho Financial Group.

The poll showed that 32 percent of the respondents said they were concerned about a "double-dip recession", another sizable slump before full recovery, in Japan, down from 50 percent in its previous survey in October.

Nearly 70 percent of them said the brighter outlook was mainly due to strong growth in emerging economies, while some 40 percent noted the recent depreciation of the yen.

More than half of those polled predicted that a full-fledged recovery would be seen in the second half of next year, and nearly half said their earnings would improve for the next fiscal year starting on April 1, the poll showed.
