Japan automakers halt production after earthquake

Honda says the 42-year-old male employee died and more than 30 others were injured when walls and parts of a ceiling crumbled.

TOKYO: Officials say Japanese automakers have halted production at plants in areas affected by Japan's massive earthquake, which killed one Honda worker.

Honda says the 42-year-old male employee died and more than 30 others were injured when walls and parts of a ceiling crumbled at a Honda Motor Co. research facility in northeastern Tochigi prefecture.

Toyota Motor Corp. shut down two auto plants in Iwate and Miyagi prefectures, and Nissan halted production at five of its plants. Two people were injured at Nissan. Toyota was still checking on injuries from Friday's 8.9-magnitude earthquake.
