Italian automaker Fiat Q1 net rises 13%

MILAN: Fiat Group SpA has posted a 13 percent increase in net profit for the first quarter of 2008.
The Italian automaker says net profit was euro405 million (US$646 million). That is up from euro358 million a year earlier and above analyst estimates of euro400 million (US$638 million).
Group revenues have reached the highest first-quarter level ever. Revenues topped euro15 billion (US$24 billion) compared with euro13.68 billion last year.
The results announced on Thursday show the automakers 13th consecutive quarter of year-on-year improvement.
