'Infiniti' could share Mercedes' small-car platform

The CEOs of Daimler AG and Renault-Nissan are saying that their 18-month old strategic partnership is going so well it could be expanded.

FRANKFURT: The CEOs of Daimler AG and Renault-Nissan are saying that their 18-month old strategic partnership is going so well it could be expanded.

That includes possibly letting Nissan's Infiniti premium brand use the new compact car platform coming from Daimler's Mercedes-Benz brand.

Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche said no ``final final'' decision has been made. But Renault-Nissan's Carlos Ghosn said plans so far are to have Infiniti come out with a small car based on the platform in 2014.

Zetsche and Ghosn said their cooperation on engines and vehicle platforms helps avoid overlapping investment and reduce costs.
