Huawei bags Nepal Telecom's 4.8 million GSM lines order

KATHMANDU: Chinese telecom giant Huawei Technologies has bagged $ 71.2 million contract from Nepal Telecom for installing 4.8 million GSM lines.

The Chinese equipment maker signed an agreement with Nepal's state run telecom player for supply and installation of new lines yesterday.

Nepal Telecom, the country's largest telecommunication company, is considering a plan to add 10 million GSM lines to expand its services across the country.

As per the agreement, Huawei will supply and install equipment and commission the new lines within the next two years, Nepal Telecom officials said.

Huawei won the Nepalese rupee 674-crore contract through international bidding.

The pact is a part of the telecom player mega project of the 10 million mobile lines for 2G, 3G and 4G services.

Interestingly, a Chinese company has won the contract of the Nepal Telecom at a time when Ministry of Information and Communication is headed by pro-Indian Madhesi leader Raj Kishor Yadav.
