HP 4Q results beat views but printer sales fall

Hewlett-Packard Co says fourth-quarter profit slipped 2 per cent, and revenue grew 19 per cent, as strong laptop sales helped offset falling printer and server orders.

SAN FRANCISCO: Hewlett-Packard Co says fourth-quarter profit slipped 2 per cent, and revenue grew 19 per cent, as strong laptop sales helped offset falling printer and server orders.

The results were slightly ahead of Wall Street's forecast. Palo Alto, California-based HP last week announced preliminary results to reassure investors and shore up a sinking stock price.

The full results were released Monday. Net income was $2.1 billion, or 84 cents per share. Excluding one-time charges, profit was $1.03 per share.
