Heathrow Airport's managing director quits

Heathrow Airport says its managing director is leaving his job following the chaotic opening of the airport's new Terminal 5.

LONDON: Heathrow Airport says its managing director is leaving his job following the chaotic opening of the airport's new Terminal 5.

Airport operator BAA says Mark Bullock has chosen to leave in light of recent management changes at the company. Bullock has been with the Spanish-owned company since 2004.

BAA PLC named his replacement Tuesday as Mike Brown, currently chief operating officer at London Underground.

High-tech baggage-handling systems broke down when Terminal 5 opened March 27. Hundreds of flights were canceled and the problems also created a backlog of thousands of bags.

British Airways announced after the fiasco that its operations director Gareth Kirkwood and customer services director David Noyes would be leaving.
