Google voted favourite British brand

LONDON: When it comes to brands, Google is the one Brits like the best. The search engine took the top spot in the new poll, while last year's winner, Microsoft came in at second spot.

Third on the list was Mercedes-Benz, followed by the BBC at number four. The top five favourite brands were rounded off by British Airways, reports The Sun.

Stephen Cheliotis, of pollsters the Superbrands Council, said: "Everyday staples seem further than ever from the affections of the British people."

Foods and supermarkets were the big losers in this year's poll what with 2007's second favourite Coca-Cola dropping to No 14, and Cadbury going from 10th spot to 19th.

The list for the Top 10 brands is:

1 Google, 2 Microsoft, 3 Mercedes-Benz, 4 BBC, 5 British Airways, 6 Royal Doulton, 7 BMW, 8 Bosch, 9 Nike & 10 Sony
