WASHINGTON: Google and book publishers and authors announced a landmark settlement to a copyright dispute that will make millions of books available for purchase online.

Under the terms of agreement, reached after two years of negotiations, the Authors Guild and the Association of American Publishers agreed to drop their lawsuits against Google over its Google Book Search programme.
