GM to lay off 150 workers at Michigan engine plant
General Motors Corp. says it will cut one of two shifts at a Flint, Michigan, engine plant in April, laying off 150 workers.
GM is ending the shift at the Flint South plant because there is less need for the 3.6-liter direct-injected V-6 engine made there.
GM spokeswoman Sharon Basel said Monday that the engine goes into large crossover vehicles made at a factory near Lansing, Michigan, and that plant is cutting a shift at the end of March due to slumping sales.
GM sales were down 23 percent last year and 49 percent in January.
The layoffs at the Flint South plant were reported Monday by The Flint Journal, which says the plant employs 414 hourly workers.
