Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk has endorsed a new Hungarian policy that offers tax relief to mothers with two or more children. In a post on X, Musk praised the initiative as a "great policy."

Musk has long warned about the dangers of population decline, calling it the greatest threat to humanity. He has repeatedly emphasized that falling birthrates could have severe consequences for technological progress, economic stability, and societal development.

Musk himself is a father of 13 children with four different partners, including a reported paternity claim from influencer Ashley St. Clair.

For years, Musk has advocated for policies that encourage higher birth rates, particularly in ageing societies like Japan and parts of Europe, where demographic shifts are already straining economies.

Why Musk Sees Population Growth as Critical

Musk believes addressing population decline is essential for humanity’s long-term survival. His vision for the future—through companies like Tesla and SpaceX—centers on sustainability, innovation, and space exploration. He sees demographic challenges as a critical factor in ensuring economic resilience and technological advancement.

The U.S. fertility rate fell by 3% in 2023, reaching 54.5 births per 1,000 women (aged 15-44). Total births declined 2% from 2022, with 3,596,017 births recorded.

While 2025 projections suggest a slight increase to 1.787 births per woman, this remains below the 2.1 replacement level needed to maintain population stability without immigration. These trends have raised concerns about workforce ageing and pressure on social support systems.

Musk and Tax Policy Reform

Beyond population growth, Musk has also advocated for tax reforms, including simplifying the tax code. As head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), he has pushed for policies that reduce bureaucratic inefficiencies and support economic growth.

Would Musk consider championing similar tax breaks for parents in the U.S.? His support for Hungary’s policy suggests he might.
