Wild Turkey 'detained' after causing chaos inside pharmacy in Indiana, netizens ask 'will it be deported?'

Police in Indiana were called to the rescue after a wild turkey began to wreak havoc inside a grocery store. A 911 caller said the bird was "chasing customers" and "knocking everything off the shelves".

The cops had quite the mission when they were called to remove the wild turkey from a local supermarket. Bodycam footage worn by officers from the St. Joseph County Police Department showed their efforts and teamwork on Thursday, April 10, inside the grocery store.

Wild turkey at pharmacy triggers panic

Police in Indiana responded to a 911 call of a turkey that was reportedly terrorizing customers at a local pharmacy. “9-1-1, what is the address of your emergency?” a dispatcher is heard saying at the start of the clip, which was posted to the department’s Facebook page, according to People.

After sharing the location as Martin’s Super Market Pharmacy, the male officer can be heard telling the woman, “There’s a very large turkey that just went in the store.” He noted that the bird was “chasing” people around and he “didn’t know who to call first.”


When the officer approached the wild animal that sat perched on top of a display shelf near the pharmacy, multiple items were scattered around on the ground, likely knocked down by the turkey’s large tail. Employees and other responding officers were also seen in the footage.

“We need animal control out here,” he told the dispatcher, reiterating that the bird was “really big” and “chasing customers.”

“It’s like, knocking everything from the shelves,” he continued.

As he went all in to grab the big bird, the turkey began frantically flapping its wings. The St. Joseph County Police Department even made their own special edit, rewinding the video to make the moment more intense.

K9 Officer Kyle O’Konski made the turkey removal look easy, holding the animal with just one hand as he and his team escorted it out of Martin’s Super Market Pharmacy. “One turkey detained,” the dispatcher said.

O’Konski smiled and held up a victorious fist after getting the turkey to safety.

“Call of the Wild (Turkey): Anyone hear about a turkey causing chaos in Martin’s?” the department captioned the video.

“The good news, no harm, no fowl. The turkey was peacefully escorted off the premises and released completely unharmed,” their post added. “Props to all responding officers — especially K9 Officer O’Konski, who’s now certified in poultry negotiations!”

Netizens reacted to the video of the turkey being arrested from the local pharmacy. "Is it gonna be deported to Turkey??," one of the users asked.

"It’s turkey season!," another joked. "Was foul play suspected?," another user quipped.

"Let's see if Trump pardons that turkey come thanksgiving," wrote another.
