Where is Joe Biden headed now?

Following Donald Trump's inauguration as the 47th president, Joe Biden, the 46th president, departed Washington, DC in a traditional send-off ceremony. The ceremony took place on the east front of the US Capitol. Biden and the former first lady took a final flight on Marine One. The helicopter flew over the capital city.

From there, Biden travelled to Joint Base Andrews where he boarded a “Special Air Mission” aircraft, part of the Air Force One fleet, for his onward journey. This departure tradition began with Gerald Ford in 1977. Before then, outgoing presidents typically left by train.

The Bidens were expected to travel to central California, specifically Santa Ynez in Santa Barbara County, for personal time following the inauguration, according to three administration officials who spoke to NBC News. “the Bidens would travel by presidential aircraft to California to spend time in Santa Ynez in Santa Barbara County,” Senior White House correspondent Kelly O’Donnell reported.


They stayed at a private residence, the same location they used after the 2024 Democratic National Convention. Plans could change, officials noted, and their permanent residence after leaving the White House remains undetermined. Possible locations include their homes in Rehobeth Beach and Wilmington, Delaware.
