The Queen's death was announced at 6:30 p.m. on September 8, 2022, shortly before Harry arrived in Balmoral. Scobie writes that the announcement was initially planned for earlier, but Harry asked for the delay.
According to a report of the Mirror, Harry's flight experienced weather-related delays. As per the book: “When Harry’s plane finally touched tarmac twenty minutes later, he received a text from Meghan urging him to call ASAP followed by a breaking news alert via the BBC News app with the announcement of the Queen’s death.”
While the Palace initially agreed to wait, they ultimately announced the news before his arrival. A spokesperson for King Charles stated: “The public was only informed after every family member had been informed.” A source also told the -Express- that the King insisted all family members be notified before the public announcement.
Royal family members traveled to Balmoral on the day of the Queen’s death. Harry, who had a scheduled appearance in London, cancelled his plans to join them.
Days later, Harry and William, along with their wives Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton, viewed floral tributes at Windsor Castle. This was their first public appearance together since the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in June 2022.
