When Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton clashed over dresses; Prince Harry reveals all
A text exchange between Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle days before the Sussexes' 2018 wedding led to a disagreement over Princess Charlotte's bridesmaid dress being too big and requiring adjustments. The dispute left Meghan distraught, but Kate ...

Harry wrote that Kate texted Meghan four days before the wedding, saying Charlotte's dress was "too big, too long, too baggy" and that Charlotte "cried when she tried it on [at] home."
In a text exchange, Meghan reportedly suggested the dress could be altered by a tailor, Ajay Mirpui, who was on standby at Kensington Palace. However, Kate insisted the dresses needed to be remade. After further back-and-forth, Meghan urged Kate to take Charlotte to the tailor, leading to Kate’s curt response: "Fine."
According to Harry, he returned home to find Meghan distraught and "sobbing on the floor." Later, Kate apologised with flowers and a note, which Harry described as a gesture of goodwill. Reflecting on the incident, he wrote: "Emotions were running high... Kate hadn’t meant any harm."
Despite these revelations, Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace have declined to comment on the allegations made by the Sussexes in Spare, their interviews, or the Netflix series Harry & Meghan.
Ajay Mirpui, the tailor involved, later shared his perspective, sympathising with the stress of preparing children’s outfits for a high-profile wedding. "Weddings are fraught with tension," he remarked, "especially one of such magnitude."
