US President Donald Trump and Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin met at the White House on Wednesday for the traditional St. Patrick's Day festivities. However, their discussion in the Oval Office took an unexpected turn—not towards policy or diplomacy, but towards Vice President JD Vance’s choice of socks.

During a press gathering, Trump started speaking about inflation but suddenly stopped, his attention drawn to Vance’s holiday-themed socks.

"I have to just speak of inflation," Trump began, before trailing off and pointing at Vance’s feet.

Making light of the situation, he quipped, "I love these socks. What's with these socks!"—prompting laughter from those in the room. "I'm trying to stay focused," he added.

Vance, amused by the unexpected attention, laughed along as Trump continued praising his festive accessory.

The Socks That Stole the Show

The vice president’s white socks, decorated with green shamrocks, were a nod to the occasion. His preference for shorter trousers, which rise when seated, made the festive footwear particularly noticeable.

The shamrock, a type of clover, holds deep cultural significance in Ireland and is traditionally associated with St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.

Vance’s Fashion Choices—A Recurring Topic

This wasn’t the first time Vance’s clothing choices had drawn public attention. According to the Daily Beast, his trouser length has been a frequent topic of online discussion.

Just last month, social media users poked fun at his style, with one X user remarking: "JD Vance is such a Constitutionalist that he wears 1700s britches and stockings."

Despite the commentary, Vance has stuck to his signature look—which, on this occasion, completely distracted the president.

As Trump fixated on Vance’s socks, the discussion on inflation was left unaddressed.

This isn’t the first time Trump has been sidetracked by fashion choices. During his presidential campaign, he reportedly commented on Elon Musk’s outfit, questioning his ill-fitting shirt.

"What the **** is wrong with this guy? And why doesn't his shirt fit?" Trump allegedly said when Musk, wearing a black "Make America Great Again" (MAGA) hat and an untucked T-shirt, bounced around the stage, unintentionally exposing his stomach.
