Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that Ghislaine Maxwell attended her daughter Chelsea Clinton’s 2010 wedding as someone else’s guest. Speaking to reporters after her closed-door appearance before the House Oversight Committee on February 26, Clinton addressed questions about her alleged links to Jeffrey Epstein.

She did not reveal who had invited Maxwell. Maxwell, a longtime associate of Epstein, is currently serving a prison sentence.

The testimony comes amid heightened attention on high-profile individuals mentioned in records tied to Epstein. The Justice Department released more than three million pages of documents related to the case after President Donald Trump signed the Epstein Files Transparency Act in November 2025. Some materials included references to former President Bill Clinton, including photographs of him with Epstein and Maxwell. However, neither Hillary nor Bill Clinton has been accused of wrongdoing, and their names appearing in the documents does not indicate misconduct.

Clinton’s testimony followed the House Oversight Committee’s January approval of contempt resolutions against both her and Bill Clinton after they failed to appear for previously subpoenaed depositions. The subpoenas had been issued in July. While the Clintons initially argued that the investigation was politically driven, they later agreed to cooperate following discussions with House Republicans.

After nearly six hours of questioning, Clinton told reporters she had no knowledge of Epstein or Maxwell’s criminal conduct. She stressed that she had no association with Epstein, saying she never visited his island, properties, or offices, and had repeatedly stated so on record.

Clinton also described the conclusion of the deposition as unusual, claiming she was questioned about UFOs and the so-called “pizzagate” conspiracy theory, which she condemned as one of the most harmful false narratives spread online.

The session was briefly paused after Republican Representative Lauren Boebert shared a photograph from the proceeding with a conservative social media personality, who then posted it publicly, allegedly violating committee rules.

In a statement shared on X, Clinton said the committee’s subpoena was based on the assumption that she possessed information about investigations into Epstein and Maxwell. She maintained that she had no such knowledge and reiterated that she did not recall ever meeting Epstein, nor did she travel on his aircraft or visit his private island.

Earlier this month, Bill Clinton posted on X that he would not allow himself to be used as a “prop” in what he described as a partisan, closed-door process. He called for a public hearing instead.

Bill Clinton’s deposition is scheduled for February 27 and is expected to mark the first time a former U.S. president has been required to testify before Congress. Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year sentence for her role in Epstein’s sex trafficking operation.
