As per reports, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has dismissed the bruise as a result of a minor accident. According to her, Trump struck his hand against the corner of the signing table during the event, which caused the bruising. A White House official added that the president is prone to hand bruises because he takes aspirin daily, which can thin the blood.
Trump has been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a condition that affects blood flow and can lead to swelling and discoloration in the hands and ankles. The condition is said to be common in people over 70.
The bruises on Trump’s hands were first publicly noticed in February 2024. In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, Trump acknowledged that he takes more aspirin than his doctors advise for heart-related prevention. He said the higher dose has made his skin more prone to bruising and bleeding, even from minor contact.
In the same interview, Trump recalled an incident at the Republican National Convention in July 2024, when a high-five with Attorney General Pam Bondi resulted in a small cut from her ring that caused his hand to bleed. He also admitted to using makeup to cover bruises on his hands when they occur, saying it takes only a few seconds to apply.
Trump further revealed that he had been advised to wear medical compression socks to manage swelling in his ankles, another symptom of chronic venous insufficiency. He said he eventually stopped using them because he found them uncomfortable, despite medical recommendations. The ankle swelling had earlier sparked speculation after photos showed pronounced swelling during public appearances.
According to the Journal interview, Trump visited Walter Reed Hospital in mid-2025 after experiencing mild swelling in his lower legs. Doctors diagnosed him with chronic venous insufficiency, describing it as a common and manageable condition. He was advised to wear compression socks and stay active. Trump said he has tried to walk more frequently but ruled out more intense forms of exercise.
Trump also disclosed that he takes 325 milligrams of aspirin daily—four times the typical low-dose preventive amount—despite doctors suggesting a lower dose. He said he has stuck with the routine for decades, partly out of habit, even though it contributes to easy bruising.
While acknowledging these issues, Trump rejected suggestions that his health is declining. He maintained that he remains in good physical and mental condition and attributed his stamina to what he described as strong genetics.
