At the G7 Summit in Canada's Kananaskis, a notable interaction between Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and French President Emmanuel Macron captured widespread attention on social media platforms.

The footage displayed Macron quietly speaking to Meloni, who was positioned on his right side. She leaned towards him to listen to his words.

Subsequently, Meloni's eye-rolling response to his comments became a significant talking point across social platforms, with viewers speculating about the content of their exchange.


"Whatever Macron said had Meloni looking like, 'What the hell is this guy on?'" one social media user commented.

"What did Macron tell Meloni? Wrong answers only," another user posted.

Dinesh D'souza, an Indian-American political analyst, observed that Italy's pioneering female prime minister displayed evident disapproval towards the French president.

Their previous encounter in the preceding year also attracted attention online, showing Macron greeting Meloni with a handshake followed by a kiss on her hand, which reportedly left her displeased.

This interaction occurred shortly after their disagreement regarding the inclusion of abortion rights language in the June 2024 G7 Summit's conclusive statement, which Italy hosted.

Incidentally, last year the two leaders clashed during G7 summit as well.

Following disagreements over abortion rights in the summit's final statement in 2024, Meloni's perceived cold snub to Macron went viral on internet.Meloni's office later denied reports that a reference to LGBTQ rights had been removed from the statement. They called such claims "baseless".

Italian local media reported that Meloni objected to the phrase "safe and legal" abortion in the final statement. She deemed it "profoundly wrong."
