Users on X (formerly Twitter) flooded the platform with reactions. “What on earth am I witnessing? Someone please get me out of here,” one user wrote. Another joked that Meloni and U.K. PM Keir Starmer were “trying not to laugh” as Sharif delivered his over-the-top praise.
The viral moment came after Trump, who was addressing the summit, invited Sharif to speak, saying, “Do you want to say something? Say what you said to me the other day.”
He added that Pakistan had nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his “extraordinary contributions” in stopping wars between India and Pakistan and helping achieve a ceasefire in Gaza. “He has saved millions of lives,” Sharif said, calling Trump “the most genuine and wonderful candidate for the peace prize.”
Trump, visibly amused, responded with humor: “Wow! I didn’t expect that. Let’s go home — there’s nothing more I have to say. That was really beautiful and beautifully delivered. Thank you very much.”
