Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, center, is escorted out as President Donald Trump addresses a joint session of Congress at the Capitol in Washington.
Democratic Representative Al Green interrupted former President Donald Trump’s joint address to Congress on Tuesday, leading to his removal from the House chamber. Speaker Mike Johnson ordered Green’s removal, citing repeated violations of House decorum. At the start of his speech, Trump stated, "The presidential election of Nov. 5 was a mandate like has not been seen in many decades." Green interrupted, shouting, "You have no mandate." In response, Republican members stood and chanted, "USA! USA!" Authorities then escorted Green out of the chamber.

Republican Members Celebrate Green’s Removal

As Green was being led out, Republican lawmakers called out phrases such as "Get out!" and "Goodbye!" Green continued to protest, shouting, "You have no mandate to cut Medicaid!"

After Green’s removal, Trump resumed his speech, reaffirming his commitment to strengthening America’s position domestically and internationally. The Republican members expressed strong support for his remarks, reinforcing their backing of his policy agenda.

Democrats Stage Silent Protest

While no other Democratic lawmakers disrupted the speech, some silently protested by holding small circular black placards with white text. The messages included "Protect Veterans," "Save Medicaid," "False," and "Musk Steals." As Trump began speaking, these members raised their signs higher.

Trump Criticises Inflation and Biden’s Policies

During his address, Trump addressed inflation, specifically mentioning high grocery prices, including eggs. He criticized President Joe Biden’s handling of the economy and instructed his Cabinet to focus on lowering costs, attributing the issue to policies from the previous administration.

Mixed Reactions from Lawmakers

Democratic members reacted in various ways. Some engaged in quiet conversations, checked their phones, or displayed protest signs. A few wore shirts with "Resist" printed on them and exited the chamber during the speech.

Meanwhile, Republican lawmakers remained attentive, frequently applauding and showing support throughout Trump’s address.
