US president Donald Trump's son, Eric is now the advisor of a Japanese bitcoin company, Metaplanet. Here's all about it

Eric Trump, son of U.S. President Donald Trump, has been hired as an advisor by the Japanese bitcoin investment company Metaplanet. The company announced on Friday that it had appointed Eric to its newly formed strategic board of advisors.

The board consists of members dedicated to advancing Bitcoin adoption and driving financial innovation, the company said in a statement.

Eric is a "leading voice and advocate of digital asset adoption worldwide," it added.

Eric Trump's love for cryptocurrencies

Eric Trump has recently expressed strong optimism about the future of cryptocurrency.

In a tweet in January this year, Eric stated, "In my opinion, there has never been a better time to invest in the United States. Bet on our markets, on energy, on technology and on crypto - bet on the greatest nation on earth - a nation that has been freed from its constraints and shackles and now has limitless potential! No question Biden left a mess - but that mess will be corrected and the next four years are going to be spectacular. Transformational wealth will be created and I hope everybody enjoys the ride."

Eric Trump reportedly has invested in various cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), and Sui (SUI). While Ethereum and Solana are well-known in the crypto space, his inclusion of the Sui Network’s native token has surprised the community.

All about Metaplanet

Metaplanet, which is listed on the Standard section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, was formerly known as Red Planet Japan and previously focused on regional hotel operations.

The company's subsidiary, Red Planet Hotels Japan, filed for bankruptcy in May 2024.

According to Metaplanet, it is Japan’s first and only publicly listed Bitcoin Treasury Company. The firm "leverages Bitcoin as its core treasury reserve asset, employing innovative equity and debt financing strategies to maximize shareholder value."

On its profile page, Metaplanet states: "Management measures its performance through the Key Performance Indicator (KPI), ‘BTC Yield,’ which reflects the percentage growth in Bitcoin per share, guiding all capital market activities. In addition to its Bitcoin-focused operations, Metaplanet owns and operates a hotel in Tokyo, which is being rebranded as The Bitcoin Hotel and is set to open in Q3 2025. The company also holds the exclusive license for Bitcoin Magazine in Japan, promoting Bitcoin education and adoption."
