According to a report in Insider Halton, among the notice significant fixes in iOS 18.6 are those that address flaws that can allow hackers to access sensitive user information, extract personally identifiable information and other sensitive data through a fake website, or cause denial of service.


One of the vulnerabilities could let hackers interfere with a phone’s normal operations — potentially freezing browsers, crashing apps, or even causing the entire system to shut down.

Another critical fix addresses a dangerous flaw in the device’s accessibility feature, VoiceOver, which could expose a user’s secret passcode by reading it aloud. VoiceOver is designed to help users by providing spoken descriptions of on-screen content, even when it’s not visible.

Additional patches target security gaps that could allow a malicious audio file to corrupt the device’s memory, a booby-trapped media file to unexpectedly close apps, and a malicious image to leak process memory to attackers.

Multiple cybersecurity experts have advised users to regularly update their devices or software and to download the newest patches as soon as these are available.

Apple fixes address bar spoofing flaw

The latest iOS 18.6 update includes a crucial fix for a WebKit vulnerability that allowed attackers to exploit address bar spoofing on malicious websites.

As explained by Malwarebytes, address bar spoofing occurs when a website deceives your browser into displaying a fake or misleading URL in the address bar, rather than the actual address of the site you’re visiting.

This creates the illusion that you’re on a trusted site—such as your bank or a well-known service—while in reality, you may be on a dangerous, attacker-controlled page.

Which Apple devices support the iOS 18.6 security update?

Apple’s new iOS 18.6 security update is available for all iPhones launched in 2018 or later. That means the iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max, iPhone XR, and every newer model are eligible. The update also covers both the second and third-generation iPhone SE, as well as the latest iPhone 16 series, according to Forbes.

How to Install iOS 18.6 on Your iPhone

Open the Settings app.

Scroll to General → Software Update.

Tap Download and Install to start the process.

This update patches a zero-day flaw

According to Apple's security notes, iOS 18.6 fixes about two dozen security issues and bugs. But one issue in WebKit, Apple's in-house-developed internet browser engine used in Safari, could compromise your system and is being tracked as CVE-2025-6558.

"This is a vulnerability in open source code and Apple Software is among the affected projects," Apple wrote in the security notes for this issue. The CVE Program, which helps identify, define and catalog cybersecurity risks, lists the severity of this issue as high.

This bug was identified by a member of Google's Threat Analysis Group, and Google wrote on July 15 that it is aware that an exploit for this bug exists in the wild. So you should download iOS 18.6 immediately to protect your device.
