Karoline Leavitt is the new White House press secretary under the Donald Trump administration. A native of New Hampshire, Karoline Leavitt, at the age of 27, is the youngest person to be appointed as White House Press Secretary. Her role is to communicate the messages and ensure that there are no gaps with the political and policy programs of US President Donald Trump.

She served as Donald Trump's campaign spokeswoman. Announcing Leavitt as his choice in November, Trump said that he was confident the one-time candidate for Congress - who also served in the White House press office during the first Trump administration - would "excel at the podium and help deliver our message to the American People as we Make America Great Again".

"Karoline is smart, tough, and has proven to be a highly effective communicator," Trump said.

Who is Karoline Leavitt?

Karoline Leavitt studied communications and political science at Saint Anselm College, a Catholic college in her home state, according to BBC. She interned at Fox News and in Trump's White House press office when she was in school.

In 2020, she told Politico she gained her "first glimpse into the world of press" through these experiences. They led to her decision to pursue a career in press relations, she said.

Leavitt began working for the first Trump White House shortly after graduating in 2019, first as presidential speechwriter and later as assistant press secretary, according to the website for her 2022 run for Congress. After leaving the White House, Leavitt served as the communications director for Elise Stefanik, a senior Republican congresswoman whom President-elect Trump has nominated to serve as United Nations ambassador.

She departed that role to run for Congress, winning the Republican nomination for New Hampshire's first congressional district in 2022, only to lose in the general election to Democrat Chris Pappas. In January 2024, she joined Trump's third bid for the US presidency as his campaign press secretary. Now, she's been chosen to serve as the youngest White House press secretary in US history.

Karoline Leavitt has become a big online talking point. People have been curious about her sporting background, and about her marriage to her husband, who is 32 years older than her and has a tragic history, according to a report in The Irish Star.

According to White House documents from 2024, the role comes with a salary of $180,000.In his previous term in office, Trump had four press secretaries. Sean Spicer served for 182 days in 2017 and was then replaced by Sarah Hucakbee Sanders, whose stint - which lasted one year and 345 days - was longer.

Her selfless act after Trump's assassination attempt

Karoline showed her devotion to the Trump campaign when - after the attempted assassination attempt on the 47th President in July 2024 - she abandoned her plan to take maternity leave, The Irish Star reported.

“Knowing I was going to have a baby in the middle of a presidential campaign— which, I found out, is no easy thing to do— they couldn’t have been more accepting and welcoming of me,” Leavitt said.

When discussing her planned maternity leave, Leavitt always felt it would be brief, but it far briefer than she could have imagined. “I had a feeling that I would be the type of person who would want to get back right away,” she admitted.

On Saturday, July 13, the day Trump was shot in Pensylvannia, Leavitt said: “I had just brought my newborn, my three-day-old baby home from the hospital. And I said, ‘I’m going to turn on the television and watch the rally today."
