Chloe Malle's appointment marks a new era for the magazine, considered one of the most influential and glamorous fashion publications. The appointment marks a seismic change at the magazine as Wintour’s tenure over nearly four decades redefined both Vogue and fashion publishing.

Who is Chloe Malle?
Malle’s early childhood was spent in Los Angeles, where her mom relocated them from New York when Malle was only three to shoot Murphy Brown. Malle was 25 when she took her first permanent job with Vogue in 2011. She rose through the ranks and later became the editor of Vogue.com, while also hosting a podcast for the magazine called The Run Through.During her time at Vogue, Malle is credited with arranging high-profile exclusives, including Naomi Biden’s 2022 White House wedding photoshoot and an interview with Lauren Sánchez ahead of her marriage to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
The daughter of actress Candice Bergen and French filmmaker Louis Malle, she spent her childhood between Paris and Los Angeles until her father’s passing when she was just 10 years old. Malle began her career at the New York Observer covering real estate, before moving into freelance writing. In 2011, she joined Vogue full time as the magazine’s social editor, a role that became her professional breakthrough.

After a brief stint in public health, Chloe Malle grabbed an internship opportunity at New York Observer. She was later hired to cover real estate.
From there, she became a freelance writer, filing pieces for The New York Times Style section and landing bylines in Vogue. Then her big break came in 2011 for the social editor role. The 39-year-old was previously the editor of Vogue.com and host of The Run-Through with Vogue podcast. She is expected to step into her new role ahead of New York Fashion Week, which runs from September 11 to September 16.
“I was hesitant when I was interviewing, because fashion is not one of my main interests in life, and I wanted to be a writer more than an editor, but I was so seduced by the Vogue machine that I couldn’t resist,” Malle said, reported The Independent.

“I actually love working with Anna, because I love someone telling me exactly what needs to be done and exactly what she thinks about something,” Malle once said of her boss. “There’s no indecision. There’s no ambiguity.”
Both on her social media and on her podcast she has supported Democratic causes and candidates. During a 2024 episode of her podcast, which aired after Donald Trump was re-elected as US president, Malle expressed her disappointment with the election result, as per a BBC report.
