Video: Donald Trump was asked the difference between men and women. His response will leave you in splits

At a public event, US President Donald Trump evoked laughter when a reporter asked him to define a 'woman'. Such a question has become politically charged as Republican-led states have moved to legally define sex based on birth and limit transgender rights.

The question was asked as Trump spoke following the swearing-in ceremony of Alina Habba, a longtime ally, as the US attorney for New Jersey. After praising Trump’s female appointees, the reporter asked why it matters to understand the difference between men and women — prompting Trump to respond with a mix of lighthearted and serious remarks that reinforced the policy stance behind his recent executive orders.

Trump's definition of 'woman'

"Since Democrats seem to struggle answering this question, I want to ask you, what is a woman and why is it important that we understand the difference between men and women?," the reporter asked Trump. The room erupted in laughter as Trump confidently said that the question was an "easy" one to answer.

The thanked President Trump for what he has done for women, referring to Trump's ban on transgender athletes in women's sports. He then proceeded to ask Trump, "What is a woman, and why is it important that we understand the difference between men and women?”


"A woman is somebody who, under certain circumstances, can have a baby. She has equality. A woman is a person who is much smarter than a man—I've always found. A woman is a person who doesn't even give a man a chance of success," he said, drawing chuckles from people around him," Trump said.

In reference to the Trump's administration's crackdown on transgender rights, he stated that women had been treated very badly.

"A woman is also someone who, in many cases, has been treated unfairly. The idea that men can compete in women's sports is not only ridiculous but deeply unjust. It disrespects and demeans women," he said.

Without naming specific individuals, Trump referenced a Democratic lawmaker advocating for the inclusion of transgender athletes in women's sports. He then quipped that Democrats pushing for such policies would struggle to win future elections.

Donald Trump transgender ban

On his first day in office, Donald Trump signed an executive order establishing the definition of “women” as adult human females and the definition of females as “a person belonging, at conception, to the sex that produces the large reproductive cell.”

He had also ordered the federal government to recognise only two sexes—male & female—and barred grants from funding "gender ideology" programs.

Under the Trump administration, the state department has started issuing passports that “accurately reflect the holder’s sex.” In 2022, the Biden administration had allowed passport applicants for the first time to choose "X" as a neutral sex marker on their passport applications, as well as being able to self-select "M" or "F" for male or female.
