Trump joked that he was "just taking a little walk"— before laughingly adding that he was scouting a spot to install “nuclear missiles.”

US President Donald Trump made a peculiar gesture during a rooftop walkabout at the White House. The commander-in-chief seemed to be a claim that he wanted to place nuclear missiles there. Trump surprised reporters on Tuesday when he was seen strolling along the roof of the White House, directly above the press briefing room.

Trump joked that he was "just taking a little walk"— before laughingly adding that he was scouting a spot to install “nuclear missiles.” He made the remarks when journalists assembled in the White House grounds called out questions to the President, who had been touring the building's roof.

Trump is planning major renovations to the legendary residence and office complex. His initial modification was to pave over the renowned Rose Garden - a move that has triggered outrage among detractors.

Nuclear missiles on White House rooftop?

Trump's initial alteration was to concrete over the well-known Rose Garden, a decision that has incited ire from his detractors. The subsequent plan he's unveiled is to append a massive ballroom to the East Wing, with designs that bear a striking resemblance to the ballroom at his Mar-A-Lago estate in Florida.

Known for his interest in real estate and renovations, Trump was accompanied by a small group, including James McCrery, the architect behind the newly announced $200 million privately funded East Wing ballroom project.

Trump, motioning with his hands as though outlining a circular shape, was asked what he intended to build. With a chuckle, he replied, “nuclear missiles,” then playfully mimed a projectile launch.

He gestured towards the White House roof beneath him and then executed a rigid-armed motion, twice. It's presumed that the President was simply acting out the firing of a missile. It seemed that the President was surveying multiple locations including the press briefing room roof and the Rose Garden.

Dressed in a suit with a red tie, Trump traversed the space alongside several companions, while someone among them captured photographs. Trump was possibly overseeing the ongoing renovation and construction work at the White House.

He returned to his presidential duties with grand plans for remodeling the building, such as paving over the Rose Garden and constructing a massive ballroom. After observing from the White House rooftop, Trump strolled over to an area above the briefing room, briefly engaging with reporters gathered below.

In response to queries about his rooftop presence, Trump mentioned he was "taking a little walk" and brought up the "ballroom on the other side." Last month, the White House announced that from September, they'll kick off construction on a whopping $200 million ballroom – marking the first major alteration to the Executive Mansion since the Truman balcony went up in 1948. Among the entourage with Trump was a gent who looked to be James McCrery, the architect helming the project.
