White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt was asked Tuesday whether President Donald Trump actually plans to visit Russia. Trump in a press briefing Monday said twice this week that he will go to the country for ceasefire talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Trump told reporters at a press briefing on Monday: "This is a tragic emergency, and it's embarrassing for me to be up here. You know, I'm going to see Putin. I'm going to Russia on Friday."

Trump is not going to Russia on Friday, but rather to Alaska to meet with Putin and discuss bringing an end to Russia's war in Ukraine.

Leavitt forced to correct Trump's error

Karoline Leavitt was asked about Trump's comments during Tuesday's White House press briefing. The 27-year-ols was left with no choice but was forced to correct the president's claim that he would be travelling to Russia to meet Vladimir Putin instead of Alaska, where the meeting will actually take place.

"The president said — I'm quoting him — yesterday, twice, that he planned to go to Russia. Was that a verbal slip-up, or does he actually plan to go to Russia?" a reporter asked the White House press secretary during a briefing on Tuesday afternoon.

"Perhaps there are plans in the future to travel to Russia. And on Friday, the president will be meeting with the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, in Alaska, as you know," Leavitt responded, her voice measured as she carefully chose her words.

'Dementia Don'

Several social media users were quick to point out that the President is suffering from dementia. "Dementia Don," a user called Trump on social media platform X. "A follow up, DOES TRUMP have dementia?" another one demanded. "Trump clearly has dementia," yet another declared.

The White House has, on several occasions, denied rumors that Trump suffers from mental decline or exhibits signs of dementia, citing an April medical report from the president's annual physical.

The president's medical team gave him a clean mental bill of health, and Trump himself has claimed that he has taken cognitive tests, which he said he passed with flying colors.

Other X users slammed Leavitt for refusing to admit that Trump made an erroneous statement and went so far as to venture that her job is at risk if she were to make such admissions. "LOL. She literally can’t say that Trump made any errors. Nobody can in the administration. If they do, they will ultimately be fired," one theorized.

"If Leavitt is speaking, she is lying," another boldly claimed. "What a bulls--- response," yet another declared.

Trump claims he is meeting Putin in Alaska

The bilateral meeting between Trump and Putin on Friday will be the first time an American leader has met with Putin since he launched the war against Ukraine in February 2022. The last time Putin met with a U.S. president was in 2021, at a summit with then-President Joe Biden.

Trump was branded "embarrassing" after seemingly accidentally saying he was going to meet Putin in Russia on Friday. Their meeting is slated to take place in Alaska.

The slip-up came as Trump held a press conference in the Oval Office to discuss his promised crackdown on crime in Washington. "It's embarrassing for me to be up here. You know, I'm going to see Putin," he said. "I'm going to see Russia on Friday. I don't like being up here, talking about how unsafe and how dirty and disgusting this once beautiful capital was."

The clip was posted to X, where users slammed the president for the misstatement. "Wait, did he give Alaska back to Putin already?" one commented. "He already handed alaska over to russia," another wrote. "Wait, so Alaska is now Russia???" one quote retweeted.

Yet another added: "Wait a second; has the Trump-Putin summit location been rearranged or has the Trump administration just announced they've ceded Alaska to Russia?" One more wrote, "You’re embarrassing our country."
