Social Security August payments: Will you receive?
Beneficiaries who were born on the first through the 10th date of their birth month are set to receive their monthly Social Security benefit on Wednesday, August 13, according to the SSA's payment calendar. The timing of retirement, spousal and survivor benefit payments depends on a recipient's birth date and how long they've been in the program. More Social Security payments will be done on the following dates:Wednesday, August 20: Benefits for those born between the 11th and 20th
Wednesday, August 27: Benefits for those with birthdays between the 21st and 31st
Friday, August 29: Supplemental Security Income payments. This payment would usually come at the first of the month for September.
However, due to September 1 falling on Labor Day, a national holiday, the payment will be made slightly earlier. It is to be noted that Social Security benefits are paid mostly to recipients who are older or retired – are typically paid on Wednesdays.
The SSA calculates retirement benefits based on your 35 highest-earning years, adjusted for inflation. These earnings are averaged, then run through a progressive formula that replaces a larger share of income for lower earners. The result is your Primary Insurance Amount (PIA) — meaning benefit amounts vary from person to person.
