‘Great day in America’: Trump’s ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ scrapes through House in razor-thin vote
President Donald Trump's sweeping spending and tax cut plan has passed the House of Representatives. House Republicans narrowly approved Trump's “big, beautiful” agenda bill Thursday morning. The bill has now been sent to the Senate after a 48-hour scramble to get fiscal conservatives and blue-state moderates on board.

With the 215-214 vote, lawmakers met the goal of House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) to approve the legislation by the Memorial Day holiday, but more drama is likely in the Senate. This is because Republicans have been demanded additional spending cuts and insisted on preserving current rules and Medicaid.

Trump hailed House passage of the sweeping bill full of his legislative priorities, thanking GOP leadership and the lawmakers who voted for it. He nudged forward what he called the “most significant piece of Legislation that will ever be signed in the History of our Country.”

“’THE ONE, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL’ has PASSED the House of Representatives! This is arguably the most significant piece of Legislation that will ever be signed in the History of our Country! The Bill includes MASSIVE Tax CUTS, No Tax on Tips, No Tax on Overtime, Tax Deductions when you purchase an American Made Vehicle, along with strong Border Security measures, Pay Raises for our ICE and Border Patrol Agents, Funding for the Golden Dome, ‘TRUMP Savings Accounts’ for newborn babies, and much more!” the president said on Truth Social. “Great job by Speaker Mike Johnson, and the House Leadership, and thank you to every Republican who voted YES on this Historic Bill!”

The President did not miss the opportunity to bash the Democrats in his message and called on the Senate to get the bill sent to his desk quickly. He continued, “Now, it’s time for our friends in the United States Senate to get to work, and send this Bill to my desk AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! There is no time to waste. The Democrats have lost control of themselves, and are aimlessly wandering around, showing no confidence, grit, or determination. They have forgotten their landslide loss in the Presidential Election, and are warped in the past, hoping someday to revive Open Borders for the World’s criminals to be able to pour into our Country, men to be able to play in women’s sports, and transgender for everybody. They don’t realize that these things, and so many more like them, will NEVER AGAIN happen!”

What's in Trump's 'big, beautiful bill'?

The Thursday morning passage of the bill marks the beginning of what is expected to be a fierce showdown with the Senate over major elements of former President Trump’s policy agenda.

In the House, Republicans Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Warren Davidson of Ohio voted against the measure, while House Freedom Caucus Chair Andy Harris of Maryland voted “present.” The legislation extends Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, increases funding for border security, deportation efforts, and national defense, and enacts reforms to Medicaid — including stricter work requirements that are projected to result in millions of low-income Americans losing health coverage. It also rolls back green energy tax incentives and raises the debt ceiling by $4 trillion, among numerous other provisions.

Additionally, the bill eliminates taxes on tips and overtime pay, fulfilling two of Trump’s campaign promises.

The House vote represents a significant victory for Trump, who had previously failed to sway GOP holdouts during a rare trip to Capitol Hill on Tuesday. He later summoned those lawmakers to the White House just hours before the vote and helped forge a deal. The White House had warned that opposing the bill would amount to “the ultimate betrayal.”
