Powerball ticket hits $1 million prize in US: Check next drawing date, winning numbers and where to buy lottery tickets

The Powerball jackpot rose to $451 million for the Wednesday, August 6 drawing after no one secured the top prize on Monday. The Ohio Lottery says there was one big winner here in Northeast Ohio that just hit a prize worth $1 million.

According to Ohio Lottery documents, one lucky ticket purchased in the Buckeye State matched five out of five numbers in the Wednesday, Aug. 6, drawing, reports Fox 8 News.

According to local media reports, the winning ticket was sold at a Circle K in Seville, according to the Ohio Lottery. It was an auto-pick ticket that missed hitting the $449 million jackpot for only failing to match the Powerball itself. If someone matches all five numbers and the Powerball on Wednesday, they can choose a one-time cash payment of $204.9 million.

Three winning tickets?

Powerball officials have announced that three lucky tickets, each worth $1 million, were sold in California, New Jersey, and New York.

But even if you didn’t hit the million-dollar jackpot, don’t toss your ticket just yet. According to the Ohio Lottery, thousands of Ohioans won prizes in Wednesday night’s drawing. Here’s the full breakdown of winners across the state:

$200 prize: 8 winners

$100 prize: 25 winners

$14 prize: 443 winners

$8 prize: 5,234 winners

$7 prize: 908 winners

$4 prize: 10,896 winners

The winning numbers from the Wednesday night drawing were 15, 27, 43, 45, 53 and Powerball 9 and the Power Play option was 2x.

The jackpot now climbs to $482 million for the next Powerball drawing, which is set for Saturday, August 9 at 10:59 p.m. That prize has a cash option worth $218.9 million.

Powerball lottery officials say the odds of hitting the jackpot are one in 292,201,338. The odds of hitting a $1 million winning ticket in Powerball, meanwhile, are one in 11,688,053.52.

Northeast Ohio recently had a big Mega Millions winner as one lucky ticket sold at the Giant Eagle at 4401 Mayfield Rd. in South Euclid hit the jackpot worth $112 million on April 18.

So far in 2025, four fortunate players have hit the Powerball jackpot. The most recent win came on May 31, when a lucky ticket holder in California snagged a $204.5 million prize.

The year’s first big win happened in Oregon on January 18, where one player scored a massive $328.5 million. Then, on March 29, another jackpot winner matched all six numbers to claim a staggering $527 million. Just weeks later, on April 26, a player from Kentucky secured a $167.3 million payout.

No one won the Powerball jackpot or the Match 5 + Power Play $2 million prize, but four lucky people in California, New Jersey, New York and Ohio won the Match 5 $1 million prize.

The next drawing will take place on Saturday, August 9, just after 11 p.m. ET.

Where to buy lottery tickets

Tickets can be purchased in person at gas stations, convenience stores and grocery stores. Some airport terminals may also sell lottery tickets.

How to play powerball

Playing Powerball is simple and can be done in just a few steps. First, purchase a ticket for $2 at a participating retailer—this could be a convenience store, gas station, grocery store, or, in some states, online.

Each ticket requires you to choose six numbers:

Five white ball numbers between 1 and 69

One red Powerball number between 1 and 26

You also have the option to add the "Power Play" for an extra $1. This feature multiplies all non-jackpot winnings by 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X, or even 10X, depending on the randomly drawn multiplier.

To win the jackpot, your numbers must match all five white balls (in any order) and the red Powerball.
