Arturo Gatti Jr., the son of late boxing Hall of Famer Arturo Gatti, has died at the age of 17, a family friend confirmed. Gatti's former bodyguard Chuck Zito confirmed the news on Instagram on October 8, and said that the young boxer had died by suicide Zito noted that the teen was found "the same way they found" Gatti Sr. in July 2009.

"It's with a heavy heart that I have to say,.... R.I.P. to 17-year-old ARTURO GATTI JR., Zito wrote on Instagram, adding that Gatti Jr. had died by suicide in Mexico. "The same way they found his Father dead in an apartment in Brazil 16 years ago," Zito added.

Arturo Gatti Jr's heart-breaking post from earlier this year has resurfaced following his tragic death aged just 17. Earlier this year, Gatti Jr achieved a milestone in his career, when he received his USA boxing, which meant he would then be able to qualify for amateur events. It also opened the gates for him that he could compete at the Olympics before turning professional.

Upon receiving the document, he shared an emotional post, in which he quoted characters from the popular Disney film The Lion King. He wrote: “Simba got his passport, side by side with Mufasa’s (Gatti Sr.) legacy. The legacy lives on. Long live the King.

“No one, nothing, not even myself, can stop what God has planned for me. Pursuing greatness, no matter what.” Tributes immediately poured in from across the sporting world following the teenager's death.

Gatti Jr.'s longtime coach, Moe Latif, wrote via his Instagram Story: "It is unfortunately not a rumor or a joke. Arturo is gone. I'd appreciate if you stop reaching out at this time."
