Nina Dobrev was spotted without her engagement ring. Has she broken up with Shaun White?

Nina Dobrev and Shaun White have decided to part ways. The 'Vampire Dairies' actress, 36, and the pro snowboarder, 39, ended their engagement after five years together, People reported on Thursday.

“It was a mutual decision, and wasn’t an easy one, but it was made with love and a deep respect for one another,” a source close to the pair said about the split.

Nina Dobrev calls off engagement

Shaun White and Nina Dobrev were last photographed together on August 31, 2025 in Los Angeles, holding hands while running errands. A week earlier, the pair took their dog, Maverick, to the Studio City Farmers Market in LA where they purchased goods and flowers. White held Dobrev’s hand as he carried a colorful bouquet of flowers, while Dobrev walked their pup on a leash.

On Sunday, Dobrev did not wea her five-carat diamond engagement ring while attending the red carpet premiere of Eternity at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival.

Additionally, the Vampire Diaries star unpinned her engagement announcement from October 2024 on Instagram. The post, which still remains on her profile, includes three photos from the heartfelt proposal and is captioned, “RIP boyfriend, hello fiancé.”

The stars initially revealed their engagement to Vogue at the time. White proposed to Dobrev in October 2024 during a surprise dinner at The Golden Swan in New York City.

“I went into shock. I just froze and stared at him,” Dobrev told the outlet, explaining that she thought she was attending a CFDA/Vogue dinner with the publication’s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, when White popped the question at The Golden Swan restaurant in New York City’s West Village neighborhood.

After Dobrev said “yes,” she and White enjoyed champagne and caviar with friends, followed by takeout dumplings and Shake Shack.

How did Nina Dobrev and Shaun White meet?

Dobrev and White initially met during a brief encounter at an awards show in 2012. But the two were formally introduced until 2019.

They started dating that year and moved in together at the beginning of 2020. White took their relationship Instagram official in May 2020 after sharing a series of snapshots of Dobrev giving him a quarantine haircut.

“Nina’s just been so supportive and so amazing through this whole process for me,” White told People in 2022. “Through the pandemic, she was a lifesaver — she really made that time in my life special.”

White also told US Weekly at the time, “We have common interests. The way in which we met really kind of strengthened our relationship. And the problems that we do face, they kind of fall away through communication.”

Earlier this year, Dobrev and White were forced to evacuate their LA home due to the wildfires. Dobrev admitted in a Jan. 18 Instagram video that she felt “survivor’s guilt” over their house surviving the fires. “Our home, although close to the fires, thankfully made it, but so many others were not so lucky,” she told fans.
