Multiple people have been injured after an active shooter was reported at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Multiple victims are trapped inside the church as a fire spread across the building, with manpower shortages noted as a constraint, NewsWeek reported.

In a post on Facebook, the Grand Blanc Township Police Department confirmed the shooting, which occurred shortly before 11 a.m. local time saying that the shooter is down and the church is on fire. Police say there is no threat to the public. An "active shooter" opened fire at the Church of Latter Day Saints in Grand Blanc on Sunday morning, according to local police.

"There has been an active shooter at the church of Latter Day Saints on McCandlish Road," police said in a statement. "There are multiple victims and the shooter is down. There is NO threat to the public at this time. The church is actively on fire.

"For people on site, the reunification site is the pavilion to the north. Offsite reunification will be at Trillium theater at Holly and McCandlish."

Michigan church shooting video emerges

Video on social media shows large plumes of smoke billowing from the church as crews battle the fire. Genesee Township Fire Operations informed Newsweek that the blaze has reached a fifth-alarm level, with reports of a building collapse and several people trapped inside. According to Command, the fire spread rapidly, nearly engulfing the entire structure.

Photographs and video shared on social media show a fire tearing through the church with a large plume of smoke overhead. Emergency vehicles could be seen parked outside as first responders rushed to help the wounded. The shooter has not been publicly identified. A motive for the violent rampage has not been given.


Police are expected to provide an update between 12:45 p.m. and 1 p.m. Police sources told Live Now Fox that six to eight people were struck. Their conditions are currently unknown.

Fox News cited sources who said the suspected shooter may have started the church on fire. Grand Blanc confirmed that as of 11:35 a.m., the church was on fire, and people should avoid the area.

A reunification site has been opened in a pavilion north of the scene, while an offsite reunification center will be opened at Trillium theater at Holly and McCandlish, the police said.

Representative John James, a Michigan Republican, wrote on X: "Liz and I are absolutely horrified by the initial reports coming out of Grand Blanc. On this Sunday, a day meant for worship and peace, such violence is a grave evil. Our prayers are with the victims, their families, and the entire community. We must remain united in faith and resolve against this darkness."
