The announcement of divorce came on the same day when Ashley Biden Ashley posted a since-deleted photo of herself walking through a park, giving a thumbs up on her Instagram Stories, while Beyoncé's "Freedom" played in the background.

She also posted another one with a quote falsely attributed to reggae icon Bob Marley saying: “Let your smile change the world, but don’t let the world change your smile” and another quote reading: “New life, new beginnings means new boundaries. New ways of being that won’t look or sound like they did before.”

Who is Ashley Biden?

Ashley Biden is the daughter of former President Joe Biden and former first lady Dr. Jill Biden. She has filed for divorce from her husband after 13 years of marriage, and celebrated the news on social media.

Ashley Biden, a social worker and activist, generally maintained a low public profile throughout her father's political career and has been private about her personal life, according to NewsWeek.

Ashley and Krein met through Ashley Biden's older brother Beau, who passed away from glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer, in 2015. They then got engaged in October 2011 after Krein proposed at sunset on a cliff in Big Sur, Calif, PEOPLE reported.

The two tied the knot at the steepled St. Joseph on the Brandywine Roman Catholic Church, in Greenville, Delaware, in a ceremony combining the bride’s Catholic traditions and the groom’s Jewish ones. The couple resided in Philadelphia and had no children.

Ashley Biden is an activist and social worker who spent 15 years working at the Delaware Department of Services for Children, Youth, and Their Families, and served as executive director of the Delaware Center for Justice from 2014 to 2019. Krein works as a professor at Thomas Jefferson University, serves as the senior director of health policy and innovation at the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson, and is the Chief Medical Officer at StartUp Health.

Joe previously told PEOPLE of Krein asking for his permission to marry his daughter, “This is the right guy. And he’s getting a helluva woman.”
