If you are trying to access your Facebook account on Thursday, August 14, 2025, you must be noticing the site is having some issues. And you are not the only one dealing with the issue. Down Detector noted a bunch of problems that users were having on Thursday morning.

Meta's social media giant Facebook experienced a brief outage on Thursday, affecting thousands of users globally, with the majority of reports coming from the US. Reports of outages began around 3:45 a.m. and are ongoing as of 6:35 a.m.

Not just US, some Facebook users in Europe also experienced issues with the social media platform Thursday, with many reporting troubles logging in to their accounts. The problems went beyond simply logging in, with some users reporting being unable to access Messenger or business pages as well. Some users in Europe were also posting about difficulty in reaching the site.


Is Facebook down?

Downdetector reported that more than 350 users experienced problems with Facebook. Of these, about 53% complained about glitches in the Facebook app, 24% said the website was down, and 22% reported login issues. The Facebook outage has hit several regions in the US, including San Antonio, Dallas, Houston, Tampa, Chicago, and New York.

When trying to access their accounts, many users were met with messages reading, “Sorry, something went wrong. We’re working on getting this fixed as soon as we can.”

While affected areas are spread throughout the United States, the most reported outage areas are near San Antonio, Dallas, Houston, Tampa, Chicago and New York, as per KSAT News. Facebook has not reported any issues on its end, and it is unclear when this will be resolved.

Some users who attempted to log in on Thursday morning were met with a notification regarding “advanced protection,” noting that security changes needed to be made to the user’s account before they could access their profile.

The website said that 57 percent of the outage reports originated from the app, while 18 percent were related to the website. Twenty-five percent of the reported issues were related to logging into users’ accounts, according to the tracker.

How netizens reacted to Facebook outage in US?

Users on social media were quick to react to the Facebook outage in US with many sharing hilarious memes. "Brilliant can’t log into facebook must be down anyone else having the same issues ??," a user wrote on X.

"Facebook is down... Stop installing and uninstalling," wrote another. "Every time Facebook is down, I sprint to X to see if it’s just me… then I start wondering, what exactly are they hiding from us?," another one quipped.

Facebook's parent company Meta has not issued any official statement addressing the cause of the global Facebook outage. The tech giant is yet to confirm whether it was due to a technical glitch, server issues, or any other underlying problem.
