“Just cancelled my Netflix subscription. If you employ someone who celebrated the murder of Charlie Kirk and makes content that pushes pro-trans content on my kids.....you will NEVER get a dime of my money. It's as simple as that,” an X (formerly Twitter) user wrote on X. Elon Musk replied to the user writing “same”, confirming the cancellation.
Why Elon Musk cancelled his Netflix subscription?
Elon Musk's move comes after the streaming platform employed Hamish Steele, a director who allegedly mocked the killing of right-wing political activist Charlie Kirk. According to a report in TOI, Hamish Steele, the creator of the animated series 'Dead End: Paranormal Park' reportedly mocked Charlie Kirk's assassination. Kirk, an ally of Donald Trump and right political conservative activist, was shot dead at a college event in Utah University on September 10.ALSO READ: Delta jets collide, ‘absolutely smash’ while taxing at LaGuardia airport in New York, wing of one plane detached
In the post, Steele referred to Kirk as “nazi”.“Your sympathy for any of the families being slaughtered by your own weapons but a random Nazi gets shot and it's a public statement," Steele said, according to viral screenshots of a reply to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer's statement on the killing of the conservative commentator. Replying to one such online post, Elon Musk wrote “This is not ok”. In another post, the tech billionaire called Hamish Steele a “groomer”.
The tech mogul initially responded with "Same" to a user who announced they had canceled their subscription. The user had written: “If you hire someone who celebrated Charlie Kirk’s murder and creates content promoting pro-trans messages to my kids… you will NEVER see a dime from me. It’s as simple as that.”
Moreover, Hamish Steele's animated work has also been called out for promoting "pro-trans content". This is the latest in a series of boycotts the company has faced, following a similar push in September.
