Chuck Mangione, the legendary Rochester jazz musician who created hits including “Feels So Good”, has died, according to multiple media reports. One of the most successful musicians to come out of Rochester, Chuck Mangione was 84.

“The family of Chuck Mangione is deeply saddened to share that Chuck peacefully passed away in his sleep at his home in Rochester, New York on July 22, 2025,” his family wrote in a statement July 24.

Chuck Mangione death

Chuck died in his sleep on Tuesday in his Rochester home. The flugelhorn and trumpet player was inducted into the Rochester Music Hall of Fame in 2012. Mangione grew up in Rochester and was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the Eastman School of Music.

Chuck Mangione earned 14 Grammy nominations and is best known for his song “Feels So Good,” and also for his recurring role on the animated sitcom “King of the Hill.”

The jazz composer and masterful flugelhorn and trumpet player was born in Rochester on November 29, 1940. He started music lessons at age 8 and, during his time at Franklin High School, performed in a jazz combo alongside his pianist brother, Gap.

After graduating in 1958, Mangione studied at the Eastman School of Music. He completed his graduation in 1963 with a bachelor’s degree in music education and later returning to teach and direct the Eastman Jazz Ensemble.

During his solo career, he sold millions of records and received numerous awards, including two Grammys. His 1977 single “Feels So Good,” from the album of the same name, reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Over the years, he gained experience accompanying visiting jazz-men and widened his musical knowledge at the Eastman School of Music. He also formed the Jazz Brothers with his brother, a combo that played hard bop.
