The aircraft belonged to CSI Aviation, a company based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It crashed near the Chinle airport, located around 200 miles (321 kilometres) northeast of Flagstaff. On board were medical professionals who were flying to a hospital to collect a patient.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Beechcraft 300 aircraft crashed in the early afternoon while attempting to land at the Chinle airport. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the FAA are both investigating the cause of the crash, which remains unknown at this time.
Navajo Nation in mourning
Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren expressed his sorrow in a social media post following the incident.“These were people who dedicated their lives to saving others, and their loss is felt deeply across the Navajo Nation,” he wrote.
The identities of the victims have not yet been released.
Investigations underway
Both federal and tribal authorities are working closely to determine what led to the deadly crash. While aviation accidents are rare, medical flights often involve high-pressure situations, which can add complexity to the journey.This incident is a reminder of the risks medical teams take to serve others, especially in remote or rural areas.
