Trump called for both Russia and Ukraine to get to the table to before it is "too late".
"Based on the fact that Russia is absolutely 'pounding' Ukraine on the battlefield right now, I am strongly considering large scale Banking Sanctions, Sanctions, and Tariffs on Russia until a Cease Fire and FINAL SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT ON PEACE IS REACHED. The threat to Russia comes only days after having stopped US military aid and intelligence-sharing with Ukraine. It comes after Russia launched major drone and missile attacks Friday on Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
On February 28, Trump and Vice President JD Vance took on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in a televised meeting at the White House. They accused him of ingratitude for billions of dollars in US weapons.
The United States voted with Russia and against its European allies on United Nations resolutions that called for ending the war without stressing Ukraine's territorial integrity.
Last month, Trump spoke on telephone with Russian President Vladimir Putin in a step toward resuming normal relations and undoing sanctions imposed under former president Joe Biden over the Ukraine invasion.
