US President Donald Trump
Donald Trump, on late Wednesday reshared a post on Truth Social proposing to rename the Strait of Hormuz the “Strait of Trump,” accompanied by a map depicting the key maritime chokepoint under the new label.

The image visually rebrands one of the world’s most strategically sensitive waterways that connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman, through which a significant share of global crude oil shipments pass.

The post appears to reinforce Trump’s earlier remarks hinting at a symbolic renaming, which have drawn attention amid escalating geopolitical tensions involving Iran, the United States, and wider concerns over energy security.

The Strait of Hormuz has long been at the centre of international strategic calculations, serving as a vital artery for global oil trade and a frequent flashpoint in US-Iran relations.

Meanwhile, oil prices rose on Thursday as worries mounted over a prolonged U.S. blockade on Iranian exports and stalled nuclear negotiations, increasing fears of tighter global supply. Brent crude climbed to its highest level since mid-2022, as tensions linked to the Iran conflict continued to disrupt flows through the Strait of Hormuz.
