Donald Trump commented on reports of violations regarding the proposed energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine
US President Donald Trump said he would look into reports of violations of a proposed Russia-Ukraine energy ceasefire, acknowledging that both sides had breached the arrangement even as uncertainty persisted over whether the truce was in place.

“I will have to look into it. Because there have been violations on both sides,” Trump told reporters at the White House on Monday, when asked about reports of Russian strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure despite the proposed pause.

Trump claimed both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had agreed to the energy ceasefire, saying the arrangement had been accepted because he had insisted on it.

“They agreed because I said they agreed,” he said, adding that the war needed to end. Trump also claimed Putin was more eager than Zelenskyy to reach a deal.

“I think they’re going to make a deal. I think actually Putin wants to make a deal more than Zelensky,” he said.

The remarks came amid conflicting accounts of the proposed truce. Zelenskyy said Ukraine was willing to stop strikes on Russian energy infrastructure but accused Moscow of continuing attacks on Ukrainian facilities.

He said Russian strikes hit a power plant in Kharkiv, a gas production facility and a civilian gas station. A Russian Shahed drone also struck a high-rise apartment building in Kyiv on Monday, killing two people and injuring nine, Zelenskyy said.

“This is further proof that Russia must face greater pressure,” Zelenskyy said in a post on X, urging Washington to respond firmly.

The Kremlin did not confirm that an energy ceasefire was in force. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Monday that “contacts are ongoing”.

The European Union also expressed scepticism. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said there was no indication that Russia would honour the proposed pause in energy strikes and called for a broader ceasefire to stop the killing.
