President Donald Trump Tuesday finally broke his silence when he was asked whether he is looking to deport Elon Musk. The spat between Trump and Musk escalated after the tech billionaire again rammed up his attack on the commander-in-chief's 'big,...
Speaking to reporters outside the White House on Tuesday morning, Trump was asked about his spat with Musk as Congress negotiates the president’s “big, beautiful” bill, which the tech billionaire opposes. Earlier in the day, Trump said he might order the Department of Government Efficiency that Musk previously led to review the billions in contracts that his companies receive.
When asked about whether he could remove Musk from the U.S., the president replied: “I don‘t know, we’ll have to take a look.”

"We'll have to take a look," Trump said when asked whether he will deport Musk. "We might have to put DOGE on Elon. You know what DOGE is? DOGE is the monster that might have to go back and eat Elon. Wouldn't that be terrible? He gets a lot of subsidies."
“DOGE is the monster that might have to go back and eat Elon,” Trump said. “Wouldn’t that be terrible?”
“He gets a lot of subsidies, but Elon is very upset that the EV mandate is going to be terminated,” Trump added.
In response to a clip of Trump’s remarks about deportation, Musk wrote on X: “So tempting to escalate this. So, so tempting. But I will refrain for now.”
Trump vs Musk escalates
Earlier in the day, Trump lashed out at Musk after the Tesla boss renewed his criticisms of the One Big Beautiful Bill, calling it “utterly insane” and “political suicide.” “Elon may get more subsidies than any human being in history, by far, and without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa,” Trump posted online.ALSO READ: Canada Day 2025: Are schools, banks, grocery stores open on July 1? On Monday, the world's richest man, continued his criticism, saying lawmakers who had campaigned on cutting spending but backed the bill “should hang their heads in shame!” “And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth,” Musk said.
Trump and Musk had an ugly spat earlier this month over the massive spending bill, which was undergoing a procedural vote late Saturday.
That spat culminated with Musk endorsing the impeachment and removal of his former chosen candidate. Musk later apologized to the president, who suggested that a reconciliation between the former allies is still possible.
The billionaire left the Trump administration and his role in DOGE on May 29, 130 days after Trump’s inauguration.
