Trump was a fan of Taylor Swift and called her 'fantastic' and 'terrific'

US President Donald Trump on Friday morning made a bizarre announcement on social media platform Truth Social. The President announced that American pop singer Taylor Swift is no longer "hot". "Has anyone noticed that, since I said "I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT," she's no longer "HOT?"" the U.S. president wrote on his Truth Social platform on Friday morning.

The post came amid others around the president's trip to the Middle East and his disappointment with the US Supreme Court over its hearing on birthright citizenship Thursday. The 78-year-old Republican wrote that Swift has seemingly lost popularity - and that he may be the reason for her alleged downfall.

Trump was a fan of Taylor Swift and called her 'fantastic' and 'terrific'. But the President's views changed after Taylor Swift became politically vocal and sided with the Democrats with strong criticism for Trump and Vice President JD Vance this election.

Trump and Taylor rivalry

It's unclear what prompted the message sent by the president while he travels back to the US from a trip to the Middle East. The president has taken shots at the singer over the years, particularly after she endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 election.

In the 2024 election, Swift endorsed Trump's rival yet again, announcing her support for Kamala Harris right after the September presidential debate. "I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election," she wrote.

She signed her post "childless cat lady" — a pointed jab at Vice President JD Vance, who had drawn backlash for disparaging single women with cats.

In response to pop star Taylor Swift's endorsement, Donald Trump posted on Truth Social: "I hate Taylor Swift."

At the time, Karoline Leavitt criticized Swift, claiming she was out of touch with average Americans and labeling her an "elite" who doesn't understand the challenges faced by everyday workers.

“This is just more proof that the Democratic Party is, unfortunately, the party of the wealthy elite,” Leavitt said, reacting to Swift’s political stance. “Taylor Swift may make great music, but she doesn’t understand the struggles of hardworking families. President Trump is standing up for those people — not those living behind gates like Swift.”

According to Forbes, Swift is the world’s wealthiest female singer, with an estimated net worth of $1.6 billion.

In a 2019 interview with The Guardian, Swift revealed she supported Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election and accused Trump of running the presidency like an "autocracy."

In 2020, at the peak of the nationwide protests prompted by the death of George Floyd, Swift posted how Trump spent his presidency stoking racism and white supremacy.

'After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence? ‘When the looting starts the shooting starts’??? We will vote you out in November,' Swift wrote in May 2020.

In February this year, both Trump and Taylor Swift attended the Super Bowl LIX. Taylor was there to support her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, but she was booed by some in the crowd while there were loud cheers for Trump. Trump seized the moment, posting on Truth Social, “The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving!” He shared videos contrasting his cheers with her boos, though fans noted Trump was also booed at the event. Swift appeared unfazed, reportedly muttering, “Aww, what, what’s going on?” while sitting with Ice Spice.
