Halo Studios has reportedly laid off several employees shortly after the launch of Halo: Campaign Evolved, the latest entry in the long-running franchise and the first Halo title to release on a Sony PlayStation platform.

While the studio has not publicly confirmed the number of affected staff, multiple employees have announced their departures on LinkedIn. Reports suggest the layoffs impacted a relatively small group, with around a dozen employees indicating they are seeking new opportunities. Some of those affected were contractors whose agreements may not have been renewed.

The layoffs come as Halo: Campaign Evolved is estimated to have sold around 1.4 million copies by early August, according to Alinea Analytics. The estimate includes upgrades from the Xbox Game Pass version. Although official sales figures have not been released, the reported performance has prompted speculation over whether the workforce reduction was linked to the game's commercial results or was part of Microsoft's broader restructuring across its gaming business.

Nick Treitman, a producer at Halo Studios, confirmed his departure in a LinkedIn post saying, "After 6.5 years working on Halo and dodging just as many rounds of layoffs – it has finally caught up to me."

Treitman added: "I have nothing but love for Halo and the folks at the studio, this is just a tough reality in the gaming industry right now."

He said he is now seeking Producer or Project Manager roles, either remotely or in a hybrid capacity in the Seattle area. During his time at the studio, Treitman supported teams across Art, Networking, Localization and Narrative, and also served as the Product Owner for Halo Infinite's social multiplayer pillar.

Paul Morris, who worked as a scrum master at Halo Studios, also announced that his role had ended following the game's launch. Morris, who was reportedly a contractor, wrote: "Today, I learned my time at Halo Studios will be coming to an end following the successful launch of our latest game, Halo: Campaign Evolved."

He acknowledged the difficult hiring environment in the gaming industry, adding: "I know this is one of the most challenging job markets our industry has seen, and I know the road ahead won't be easy. But I'm not done, and my purpose has not changed."

Software engineer Caleb Lawrence has also updated his LinkedIn profile to indicate that he is available for work.

Halo Studios has not issued an official statement on the layoffs. The workforce reduction follows Microsoft's wider restructuring within its gaming division, announced about a month earlier, raising the possibility that the cuts are part of broader organisational changes rather than a direct response to the game's performance.

The layoffs underscore the continued uncertainty across the video game industry, where studios have continued to reduce headcount despite major game launches. As more information becomes available, the scale of the layoffs and their potential impact on Halo Studios' future projects are expected to become clearer.
