Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez

Following their lavish three-day wedding in Venice, Lauren Sánchez—now Mrs. Jeff Bezos—finds herself at the center of an unexpected mystery. One of her 27 designer dresses has reportedly vanished, casting a curious shadow over what was already one of the most high-profile weddings of the year.

The couple tied the knot on Friday, June 27, in a private chapel on San Giorgio Island, surrounded by elite guests and layers of security. Sánchez stunned in a series of couture looks from fashion powerhouses such as Dolce & Gabbana, Oscar de la Renta, and Schiaparelli. The missing dress was noticed after the celebrations, just as the newlyweds departed for their Sicilian honeymoon.

Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera first broke the story, suggesting that an uninvited guest—described as "elegantly dressed"—may have infiltrated the tightly controlled event and made off with the gown. Security was reportedly stretched so thin during the festivities that Italy’s anti-terrorism unit, Digos, was called in to support.

Sources close to the couple told the paper that a dress is indeed missing but downplayed any suggestion of theft. No police report has been filed, and the couple’s camp insists the incident may simply be a case of misplacement. The dress was last known to be stored at the luxurious Aman Hotel, where the couple stayed during the celebrations.

Sánchez’s wedding wardrobe was as theatrical as it was exquisite. Her main bridal look—crafted by Dolce & Gabbana—was a high-neck mermaid gown inspired by Sophia Loren’s costume in Houseboat (1958), complete with Italian lace, 180 silk chiffon-covered buttons, and a delicate veil. “It went from ‘I want a sexy, modern dress’ to ‘I want something that evokes a moment,’” she told Vogue. “It’s a departure from what people expect, but it’s very much me.”

Her fashion parade continued with a golden Schiaparelli gown embroidered with green flowers for the rehearsal dinner, followed by a glamorous, Rita Hayworth-inspired number from Dolce & Gabbana for the wedding dinner. The finale? A dazzling Oscar de la Renta cocktail dress encrusted with 175,000 hand-sewn crystals and 600 yards of chain.

While representatives have tried to minimize the incident, rumors of additional dress mishaps—including damage to a vintage Dolce & Gabbana piece—have been firmly denied.

The celebration, estimated to have cost between €40 million and €48 million, featured an array of themed events, from pajama parties to opulent evening affairs. As the couple continues their honeymoon in Taormina, whispers about the missing dress continue to circulate in fashion and society circles alike.

One thing is certain: even amid towering florals, couture spectacle, and billionaire sparkle, it’s a missing gown that now adds a touch of intrigue to this already unforgettable affair.
