In a candid interview with British Vogue, Jennifer Lopez shared the personal challenges she has faced raising her 16-year-old twins, Emme and Max, especially after her public split from ex-husband Ben Affleck. Lopez, who stars in the film Unstoppable, discussed the struggles of balancing motherhood with her own aspirations and life challenges.

Lopez described her experience as a mother as “beautiful, challenging, blessing,” acknowledging the difficult reality of parenting. She emphasized that being a parent is “the hardest job that anyone could ever have,” a sentiment many can relate to.

Challenges of Parenting and Personal Struggles

Lopez opened up about the emotional tug-of-war that many parents face, particularly those who are single. “It’s about wanting to put forward the best face for [your kids] all the time, but also be struggling as a woman and in relationships and in life, with your own dreams and aspirations,” she explained. She highlighted the constant need to balance personal challenges with the responsibility of raising children.

Despite her struggles, Lopez pointed out that these hardships don’t diminish the love and dedication parents have for their children. “You always want to put your best foot forward for your kids. You want to lift them up. That doesn’t stop you from being a human being who struggles,” she said.

Reflections on Single Parenthood

Lopez also reflected on her experiences as a single parent, particularly the emotional challenges portrayed in her film Unstoppable. The movie features the story of Judy Robles, the mother of champion wrestler Anthony Robles, who faces difficulties in her relationship with an abusive ex-husband. Lopez resonated with Judy’s struggle and noted, “I’ve been in the same spot, like maybe I shouldn’t be giving this person another chance, and then you go back. I don’t think there’s a woman on earth who hasn’t been in this position, or even man.”

In discussing her own journey as a single mother, Lopez recalled her moments of self-doubt. “I’ve been a single mom at times in my life, and [I’ve asked], ‘Am I enough for them?’” she shared, referring to her children with ex-husband Marc Anthony.

A Message of Empowerment and Healing

Lopez noted that the movie provided a sense of healing for her, reminding her that love and support from just one good parent can make a world of difference. “The truth is, all you need is really one good parent to love you,” she explained. “You hear it in Anthony’s voice, and look what he’s been able to accomplish. That’s what the movie gave me: You are enough.”
