Love her or roll your eyes at her, one thing’s for certain, Sydney Sweeney knows how to stay in the headlines. After that American Eagle jeans advert that bizarrely spiralled into a row about “eugenics marketing”, the Euphoria star has once again found herself at the centre of an internet storm. This time, it’s all thanks to a viral claim that she promised to go naked if the Buffalo Bills win the Super Bowl.

A supposed statement attributed to Sweeney reads: “Let’s be honest, a Super Bowl win would be the ultimate reason to celebrate. If they win, you’ll definitely see me naked in full Bills glory, because this is my team, and I’ll do whatever it takes to show my love.”

Sounds wild, doesn’t it? Well, it turns out the whole thing is cooked up. The quote originated on a fan page called Mafia Bill, before spreading to another account called Buffalo Bills Fans Club earlier this month. But here’s the catch: there’s zero evidence that Sweeney ever said this.

Interestingly, Bills fans weren’t the only ones roped into this cheeky rumour. Around the same time the Buffalo post appeared, two other fan pages, We Love Chicago Bears and We Love Cleveland Browns, posted the exact same claim, simply swapping in their own team names. In short, it’s not Sweeney showing sudden NFL loyalty, it’s just copy-paste internet mischief.

Sweeney’s popularity, combined with the internet’s appetite for outrageous celebrity headlines, made the rumour believable enough to go viral. But there’s no official comment from the actor herself, and no reliable outlet has ever linked her to the so-called “naked celebration” pledge.

Away from the gossip mill, Sweeney has been busy with work, although not all of it has gone to plan. Her latest film Americana has stumbled badly at the box office. Next, however, fans will see her take on a completely different role in Christy, a biopic of boxer Christy Martin. The film is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on 5 September 2025.
